The SAICE Future Leaders Panel (FLP) is a voluntary committee composed of young engineers from the industry. The FLP seeks to unify and encourage young civil engineering professionals and ultimately standardise a culture of strict professional and ethical behaviour among all SAICE young members.
To create an environment which encourages students studying towards civil engineering qualifications to develop a working relationship with SAICE through involvement, training opportunities and networking activities.
Since the origins of humanity, human progress has been spurred by the engineering genius. The engineering profession has made usable nature’s vast resources of material and energy for humanity’s benefits. Engineering practitioners have vitalized, and turned to practice use, the principles of science and the means of technology. Were if not for this heritage of accumulated experience, my efforts would be feeble.
I pledge to practice integrity and fair dealing, tolerance and respect, and to uphold devotion to the standards and dignity of my profession, conscious always that my skill carries with it, the obligation to serve the public good, by making the most sustainable use of earth’s precious resources.
I shall participate in none but honest enterprises. When needed, my skill and knowledge shall be given without reservation. In the performance of duty and in fidelity to my profession, I shall give the utmost.
To develop innovative thinking among young members and inspire them to change their overall worldview.
To encourage professional registration of young members who are eligible to register with their relevant councils in relation to the Identification of Engineering Work (IDoEW) policy.
To equip young members with valuable knowledge through industry projects and events, which will assist them gain skills to allow them to grow in their respective careers.
To promote the SAICE Growing Forwards strategy to ensure maximum impact within the organization.

I am the Chairperson of the SAICE FLP and have been working as a Construction Project Manager for over 9 years. My experience covers various areas including the PFMA, Construction and Building Management, and Implementation of Housing Projects technical procedures/methods. I am well-versed in building legislation and policies, as well as project and program implementation processes.
In addition to my professional role, I proudly serve as a board member of the University of Johannesburg’s Research Centre (SMaCT). I am also dedicated to promoting Employment Equity as a Champion at the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements. Throughout my career, I have actively participated in numerous committees, contributing to a wide range of initiatives.
Victor Chibaya is a dedicated Structural Engineer at SiVEST SA who is fervently committed to advancing the industry through advocacy and innovation. Currently serving as the National Vice Chairperson of SAICE FLP, Victor is actively involved in shaping the future of engineering leadership. He also contributes his expertise to the SAICE Pretoria Branch and the IStructE Southern African Regional Group.
Victor’s passion for the industry is evident in his active participation and contributions, showcasing his commitment to giving back. Concurrently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Engineering at UCT, he believes in the transformative power of knowledge and action. Victor advocates for continuous education among young professionals, emphasizing the importance of applying acquired knowledge to create positive change and build a better tomorrow today.
Takalani Netshipale is Civil Engineer and Project Manager who currently works at the KwaZulu Natal Department of Health. She advocates for women and girls in STEM (Science Technology Engineering, and Mathematics), holds a Bachelor’s Honours Degree in Structural Engineering and Specialised Project Management Qualification. As the recipient of multiple awards, including the 2024 Rising Star Award from Big 5 Construct and 2022 South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) Graduate of the Year award, she prides in her growing impact.
I am a motivated and diligent Civil Technician with under a year worth of experience in the construction industry. I possess a strong foundation in civil engineering principles and a keen interest in contributing to infrastructure development projects. My hands-on experience and academic background have made me a valuable addition to any project team
A Chartered Civil Engineer with seven years experience, Currently employed in the Consulting Engineering industry at Atkins in Dublin, Ireland.
The vast majority of my project experience has been in the fields of Roads and Stormwater Engineering. I have experience in a variety of projects, with my involvement comprising both design and project management roles. I have extensive knowledge in programs such as AutoCAD and Civil Designer.
I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering along with a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering both obtained through the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I have also pass the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam.

I am a Professional Engineer (South Africa) and Chartered Engineer (Australia). I have 14 years of experience as a Civil Engineer and have managed and designed a variety of projects from municipal services/urban engineering (sewer, water, stormwater, earthworks, roads), water engineering (bulk, distribution, treatment) to engineering investigations (feasibility studies, improvement projects, other investigations). Apart from consulting, I have also worked as a contractor and client (government).
I have been a leader in South African engineering institutions and organisations, functioning in strategic and operational roles and was fortunate to win some honours due to this.
My other interests include: art, reading, writing, developmental studies, social systems and community upliftment programmes. I have a passion for Africa and development of emerging economies.

I am a senior civil engineer and town planner with a passion for addressing the urgent challenges of climate change and sustainable development. My goal is to make a positive impact and find innovative solutions that contribute to a better world.
I started my career as a roads and stormwater design engineer focusing on municipal and provincial roads. After completing my masters of town and regional planning, I transitioned into transport planning and advisory. During this time I got some water advisory experience. My current role entails the development of business cases, strategies and policy/legislative guidance of transport and water infrastructure. I’m serving on the Transport Planning and Advisory committee
Civil Technologist at ROMH Consulting, with 7 years’ work experience in the consulting engineering field. I have developed skills in the design, construction monitoring, contract administration and management of projects with infrastructure services, such as water, sewer, housing, buildings and schools. I am active member of the South African Institute of Civil Engineering, currently leading as the Chairperson for the Amathole Branch in the Eastern Cape.
With a solid background in civil engineering, my work experience encompasses a wide range of expertise in the transportation and infrastructure sector. I have successfully delivered various road and railway projects, specializing in geometric road and stormwater design, culvert design, and road marking and signs design. Additionally, I have played a vital role in supporting the delivery of infrastructure through the Irish statutory processes, ensuring compliance with local regulations and guidelines. My passion for design thinking has led me to facilitate workshops and implement human-centered engineering solutions. Furthermore, I possess technical design proficiency across multiple disciplines, adhering to industry standards such as the National Cycle Manual and TII Technical Standards. With extensive involvement in planning, designing, and monitoring low-density and high-density housing schemes, I have demonstrated my ability to create sustainable and community-centric developments. From feasibility studies to contract administration, I have been actively engaged in the entire project lifecycle, consistently delivering successful outcomes. My comprehensive skill set includes excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, innovative and critical thinking, and a commitment to continuous learning. I am a Professional Bioresources and Civil Engineer with approximately 7 years’ experience in transport, water, irrigation engineering and construction. I also hold an MBA from the University of KwaZulu Natal. I am currently a project manager and technical lead for Kufanikiwa Consulting working on various transport projects in KwaZulu Natal.
I am currently serving as the SAICE Durban FLP Chairperson. What I would like to contribute to the civil engineering profession is competency and ability to change people lives through my involvement in infrastructure development projects.
What motivates me to stay in the industry is the continuous development and learning I experience, and the fulfilment of making a difference in society through the infrastructure development. It is a dream come true to see designs coming to life and improving the lives of normal citizens. What I would like to give back is mentorship to the youth in communities.
Noel is a Professional Engineering Technologist with over 11 years of experience in civil engineering design and project implementation, specializing in Water and Sanitation as well as Transportation Planning. He is a Senior Civil Engineering Technologist at Sky High Consulting Engineers (Sky High), where he is heading their dynamic Mbombela office.
In addition to his role at Sky High, he is actively involved in the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE). He serves as the chairperson for the SAICE Lowveld branch and represents the Lowveld FLP at the SAICE National Office.
His leadership in these roles underscores his dedication to advancing the profession and supporting his peers. Outside of his professional life, Noel is a devoted family man, happily married and the father of two wonderful daughters. He enjoys a variety of hobbies including golfing, running, and playing tennis, which provide him with balance and enjoyment in his life.
Mawande Khawula is a Civil Engineering Technician holding a National Diploma from Mangosuthu University of Technology. His over 4 years of experience ranges through Infrastructure Asset Management, BIM Modelling, Construction Management and Supervision. With exposure to a broad variety of projects within the Water Engineering space. His passion for the industry is highlighted by his willingness to participate and contribute at branch committee level, in Durban (2022 & 2023) and currently with Pretoria branch committee.
Noko is Civil Engineering Technologist in the consulting space specialising in Municipal Advisory Services. Noko believes in professional development through participation in voluntary associations. Off the clock, you’ll find Noko on a 5-a-side soccer pitch, or padel court.
